The emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as the state’s developmental projects.

The monarch made the commendation on Sunday when he led members of the Gombe Emirate Council on the traditional Sallah homage to the governor at the Government House.

Speaking during the visit, the emir praised the governor’s leadership, asserting that the state had witnessed a remarkable transformation under the current administration.

“Your leadership has brought remarkable transformation to Gombe State. Frankly speaking, since the creation of the state, we have never witnessed this level of development until the coming of your administration,” the emir stated.

He further said the governor had fulfilled and even exceeded campaign promises, while also commending his inclusive governance style and relationship with traditional institutions.

The monarch highlighted projects in infrastructure, health, education, energy and urban renewal, and referenced developments such as the upgraded Government House, the airport, the Three-Arms Zone and the Shehu Abubakar District as evidence of progress.

However, some critics believe that Sallah’s homage visits are largely ceremonial and traditionally feature goodwill messages rather than independent evaluation of government performance.

Salihu Sulaiman Deba, a participant, argues that while the administration has undertaken visible urban projects, especially within Gombe metropolis, concerns remain over unemployment, rural infrastructure gaps, and the pace of economic growth across local government areas.

For Aliyu Sahabo, traditional rulers, though influential, are not constitutionally positioned to assess government performance.

In his remarks, Governor Yahaya thanked the emir for the commendation and described the traditional institution as a key partner in governance.

He maintained that his administration has made significant progress over the past seven years and pledged to continue implementing projects aimed at long-term development.

The visit concluded with the presentation of the traditional Sallah gift (Goron Sallah) and a durbar procession led by the emir and members of the traditional council.
