A public policy think-tank, Neo Africana Centre, has called on Nigerian politicians to emulate the footsteps of former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, in his humanitarian gesture to the people.

Bafarawa had last Wednesday donated N1 billion to the people of Sokoto State, a gesture he described as “giving back”, following the flood that ravaged Sokoto, Borno, and other states.

The director of public affairs of the centre, Jenkins Udu, said Bafarawa’s action was worthy of emulation, and urged other Nigerian politicians who had held positions of responsibility at various times to look back in time as Bafarawa did, as a way of reconnecting with the people and building a better society.

Neo Africana Centre made the call in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday.

According to the centre, if Bafarawa, a former governor who left office more than 17 years ago, could muster this level of goodwill, some other politicians who have held executive positions, especially more recent ones, can show sufficient goodwill as well.
