As Nigeria joined the global community to mark the International Day for Maternal Health and Rights (IDMHR), Emzor Group has called for increased investment in healthcare to address the country’s high rate of maternal mortality.

Speaking in commemoration of the day, the executive director of Emzor Group, Uzoma Ezeoke, emphasised that improving maternal health outcomes requires deliberate funding, strong health systems, and sustained collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders.

“Every woman deserves access to safe pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care. Maternal health is not a privilege but a fundamental right. Achieving this requires deliberate investment and coordinated action,” she said.

Observed annually on April 11, the IDMHR draws attention to the need for equitable and high-quality maternal care.

This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” highlights the urgency of eliminating preventable maternal deaths and strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly in low-resource settings.

Also speaking, head of Marketing of the company, Kunle Faloye, said the company remains committed to supporting healthcare systems with affordable and high-quality pharmaceutical products.

“Our focus is on improving access to essential maternal health solutions, from prenatal nutrition to postpartum care. By investing in local manufacturing, we are ensuring availability and better outcomes for mothers and newborns,” he said.

The head of Marketing at Zolon Healthcare, Obiajulu Onwuzor, noted that strengthening domestic pharmaceutical production is critical to bridging gaps in access to life-saving medicines.

She said, “By focusing on quality-assured, locally manufactured solutions, we are helping to improve access and align with global clinical standards.”

Emzor also highlighted its role in preventive healthcare, including interventions for malaria in pregnancy and the provision of essential nutritional supplements that support maternal and child health.

Ezeoke stressed that addressing maternal mortality requires a holistic approach encompassing prevention, nutrition, and access to essential medicines.
