Enenche: Christianity Not Subordinate To Any Religion In Nigeria

Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, has declared that Christianity is not subordinate to any other religion in Nigeria, warning against statements capable of deepening religious tensions in the country.

Enenche made the remarks during the church’s Sunday service at its headquarters in Abuja, in reaction to comments attributed to Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir in support of the continued adoption of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A video of Enenche’s sermon was shared on his verified X account on Sunday with the caption, “Nobody Should take The Body Of Christ For Granted!”

In the accompanying post, Enenche described those making what he considered anti-Christian statements as “agents of the devil” and urged them to reconsider their position.

He said, “The Body of Christ is here, and will be here for a very long time. So, repent, have a change of mindset, and turn away from every opposition against the Church. The Church of Jesus Christ will continue to stand, prevail, and advance in the power of God!”

During the sermon, the pastor took exception to any suggestion that Christians were secondary to followers of another religion in Nigeria.

“I was away for the crusade this past week, and I heard from a friend what was going on, where I think an insane man came up to say that Christianity is subordinate to any other religion in this country,” he said.

Enenche added, “To say that Christians are secondary to any other religion, the Lord rebuke you and your devils.

“Christianity is not secondary, and no group of religious fanatics will ever make it secondary.

“Not you, not any political group of people will ever make Christianity secondary to any other religion. If you have sense, take a look around.

“There is no part of Nigeria where Christians don’t exist en masse.”

He warned political and religious actors against taking the Christian community for granted, stressing that the church remained a significant force in the country.

Enenche also criticised what he described as divisive comments capable of worsening religious tensions and undermining national unity.

The pastor questioned the contributions of those promoting such views to Nigeria’s development and urged religious and political leaders to exercise restraint and responsibility in their public statements.

He further called on security agencies to pay closer attention to remarks that could incite violence, warning that reckless statements by influential figures could threaten peace and stability.

Enenche’s comments followed remarks attributed to Sheikh Yahya Jingir at an event attended by prominent political figures, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.

Jingir reportedly praised President Bola Tinubu for adopting a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2023 election and declared his support for the political arrangement.

“Special thanks to my political hero, Bola Tinubu, who raised the flag of this political ideology, describing it as a purely Muslim-Muslim coalition,” the cleric said.

“I am among the staunch advocates of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, and I call on you to come together for Muslim-Muslim ticket.”

He also urged Muslims to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of future elections, while acknowledging opposition to the arrangement among Christians and members of other religious groups.

The comments have continued to attract reactions amid Nigeria’s longstanding debate over religious balancing, political representation and the implications of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
