The senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, and his wife, Becky Enenche, have donated a brand-new patrol vehicle to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to boost road safety enforcement.
The donation was made on Sunday at the church’s headquarters in Abuja, shortly after the service, with the clerics also decorated as Honorary Special Corps Marshals of the FRSC.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the vehicle is expected to strengthen safety operations, particularly along the busy Abuja Airport Road corridor, which has recorded frequent traffic incidents.
Speaking during the presentation, Enenche said the donation was inspired by the ministry’s commitment to saving lives and easing the operational burden on road safety personnel.
“What we are doing is to ensure that lives are saved and that the work of enforcement officers is made easier. We want people to fulfil their days and not have their lives cut short due to road safety challenges,” he said.
The cleric expressed concern over the recent rise in road traffic crashes nationwide, noting that the church resolved to partner with the FRSC as the lead agency responsible for highway safety to help reduce avoidable tragedies.
“While we pray, we also work. When God places a burden on your heart, it is for humanity. It is impossible to walk closely with God and not be passionate about human lives,” he added.
In her remarks, Dr Becky Enenche, assured that more safety-focused interventions would follow, stressing that the church had consistently supported initiatives across various sectors within and outside Nigeria.
Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the Corps Marshal, Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Omiko, who represented Shehu Mohammed, described the donation as a commendable gesture and called on other Nigerians to support road safety efforts.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Today, Dunamis International has answered that call by supporting our mandate to make the roads safer for motorists,” Omiko said.
He, however, warned that the donation would not exempt members of the church from traffic law enforcement.
“Do not assume that because the vehicle was donated by Dunamis, offenders will be spared. Traffic laws will be enforced strictly. Avoid one-way driving, phone use while driving, and speeding,” he cautioned.
Also speaking, the FCT sector commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, disclosed that between December 15 and January 15, at least 597 people lost their lives in road crashes nationwide, with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recording significant fatalities, particularly along the Airport Road.
“This patrol vehicle will greatly enhance enforcement. The presiding pastor has been a long-standing partner, supporting us with fuel and consistently engaging our personnel during church programmes,” Theman said.
He added that the donation was “not a licence for reckless driving” but rather an opportunity for stricter enforcement.
The national coordinator of special marshals, Adaji Usman, noted that Enenche’s support for the corps dates back more than three decades, while the Lugbe unit commander, Muktar Garga, commended the cleric for fulfilling the promise of the vehicle within two weeks of a formal request.
