The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted reports suggesting internal crisis within the party, describing claims of mass resignations and unpaid delegates’ stipends as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the state publicity secretary, Uche Obute, dismissed the allegations as a “fabricated narrative” orchestrated by individuals seeking to undermine the party’s stability.
Obute stated that there was no discontent among delegates who attended the party’s recent national convention, insisting that reports of grievances over welfare were entirely unfounded. He added that such claims were deliberately created to distract the party from its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Addressing speculations about members leaving the party over alleged marginalisation, the APC maintained that, on the contrary, the administration of Governor Peter Mbah has strengthened the party’s structure and expanded its influence across the state.
The party further claimed that Enugu has evolved into a stronghold, with members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as chairmen and councillors across all 17 Local Government Areas, aligning with the APC.
Highlighting its inclusive leadership, the party noted that both long-standing members and new entrants are well represented in key positions. It cited figures such as South-East Zonal Woman Leader, Oby Ajih, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Ben Nwoye, as evidence of its balanced structure.
The statement added that both old and new blocs are adequately accommodated at all levels of leadership, from ward to state level, ensuring unity within the party.
Reaffirming its cohesion under the leadership of the state chairman, Martin Chukwunweike, the APC urged members and the public to disregard the reports, expressing confidence that “sponsored misinformation” would not hinder its progress or political ambitions ahead of future elections.
