Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has called for enhanced collaboration between the commission and the Federal Ministry of Education in leveraging the digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) solution to strengthen Nigeria’s educational system.
Kwarra made the call yesterday in Abuja while addressing participants at the second quarterly engagement of the Minister of Education with Heads of Departments and Chief Executives of Parastatals, held at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Highlighting the value of the digitized CRVS system, the NPC chairman said academic institutions stand to benefit from instant and reliable dashboards for verifying birth and death records, as well as foundational identity data.
“The digitized CRVS system will help reduce fraud in admissions and examinations across educational institutions in Nigeria, ensuring that every verification process is seamless, authentic, and tamper-proof,” he said.
Kwarra recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the application VITALREG and the National Geospatial Data Repository on November 8, 2023.
He further disclosed that geo-coordinates of all structures in the country, including schools, were successfully captured during the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise across the 774 local government areas ahead of the national census.
According to him, the Commission is willing to share this data with the Ministry of Education and other relevant government agencies to improve planning, service delivery, and data-driven decision-making.
The meeting was attended by the minister of education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; minister of state for education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’idu Ahmad; and the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, alongside several heads of parastatals and departments.
Kwarra was accompanied by the NPC director-general, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, and other senior officials.
The engagement marked a significant step towards strengthening the synergy between population data management and the education sector to build a more reliable system for future generations.
