The Etsu Nupe and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar has charged all stakeholders to work hard to reverse the neglect of the education sector.
The Etsu Nupe spoke yesterday in Bida, Niger State at a reception for a newly promoted Arabic scholar, Prof. Shegu Abdulraman-Aboki of Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto.
He said education is the solution to most of Nigeria’s challenges, noting that education, if given the required attention and funding, would provide the way out of the country’s problems.
The Etsu Nupe, who was represented by the Gafaka Nupe, Alhaji Abdullahi Umaru-Ban Nachi, said that „there is the need for all the critical stakeholders in the education sector to do the needful to reverse the utter neglect“.
Abubakar also appealed to parents in the country to strive to send their wards to both western and Islamic schools to empower them with the requisite knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to societal development.
The traditional ruler reminded parents that God Almighty had directed parents to do everything possible to give their children sound Islamic and western education and good moral upbringing.
