As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a popular entertainment/relaxation outfit, Road House Event Centre, has constructed and donated a fully equipped police outpost to its host community in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, to enhance security and reduce crime in the area.
The outpost, located in the Lassandi area of the locality, is equipped with basic facilities, including a water reservoir and solar-powered lighting, as well as two motorcycles to support effective operations and prompt response to emergencies by police personnel deployed to the outpost.
The land which the structure stands on was donated by the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, and is located about 300 meters away from the relaxation spot.
At the commissioning ceremony, the state commissioner of police, CP Betty Isokpan Enekpen Otimenyin, commended the management of the centre for the contribution to public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police – Administration, Garba Umar, said the outpost was built out of genuine concern for the safety of lives and property of residents of the locality.
CP Otimenyin assured residents that, the officers deployed to the facility would ensure the security of the area and urged members of the public to support the police by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
“The task of securing our communities is a collective responsibility. Peace can only be achieved when citizens work closely with security agencies,” she said.
She also appreciated the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo for donating the land for the purpose of security.
The commissioner expressed hope that, with the growing population in the area, the outpost would be upgraded to a divisional police station soonest.
The chairman of Jalingo local government area, Hon. Nura Dantsoho, also applauded the donor for complementing government efforts at curbing crime in the state.
He noted that, the project would strengthen the local security architecture and add value to ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property and charged officers posted to the outpost to be diligent, focus and committed to duty.
Danysoho further commended Governor Agbu Kefas for providing an enabling environment for peace and investment in the state, and stressed that, security should not be left to government alone.
On his part, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, Most Rev. Charles Michael, said the church was concerned not only with the spiritual welfare of its members but also with the overall wellbeing and security of society.
He reaffirmed the church’s readiness to support initiatives that promote peace and development of the state.
