Widow of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Barrister Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, has described the sudden death of her husband as the most difficult and painful experience of her life.
Mrs Ewhrudjakpo spoke when a delegation of the Association of Women Against Gender-based Violence (AWAGBV), led by its president, Dr Dise Ogbise Goddy-Harry, paid her a condolence visit yesterday.
In an emotional moment, she thanked the members of the association and other well-wishers who had continued to show love, support and solidarity with her family during the period of mourning.
“This is the most trying moment of my life,” Mrs Ewhrudjakpo said, as she struggled to hold back tears.
She assured the delegation that the family would keep them informed on burial arrangements and other preparations as plans progress.
Earlier, Goddy-Harry paid glowing tribute to the late Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as a strong advocate for the protection of women and children.
She said the late deputy governor made significant contributions to the fight against gender-based violence in Bayelsa State and consistently spoke out against the abuse of women and children, including pedophilia.
“He stood firmly against all forms of abuse and always supported initiatives that protected the dignity of women,” Goddy-Harry said.
She commended Mrs Ewhrudjakpo for standing by her husband throughout his years of public service, assuring her that the association would continue to support her in this difficult time.
Also speaking, the 2nd national vice president of the association, Dr Joan Filatei, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “This is a sad one for us as an organisation, but God knows best,” she said.
