A former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, John Michael Abdul has emerged as the interim chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
Abdul was one of the key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that joined the ADC in the wave of defection which gripped the main opposition party in the state.
The former deputy governor’s emergence followed his appointment by the Senator David Mark-led national leadership of the party.
He was officially presented to stakeholders and members at the coalition meeting in Akwanga town, Akwanga local government area of the state.
At the meeting, another former PDP stalwart, Jibrin Sabo Keana also emerged as secretary, while Senator Patricia Akwashiki, also an ex-PDP bigwig, became member of the party’s Board Of Trustees (BOT).
Present at the meeting were two former ministers, Musa Elayo, Minister of State for Justice and Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, a former Minister of Environment.
Elayo defected from the PDP, while Abdullahi resigned from the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
Others include Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe, a three-term member of the Nigerian Senate; General Nuhu Angbazo (rtd), a PDP gubernatorial aspirant for the 2023 election; Abdulkarim Ombamas, former Member of the House of Representatives; ESV Dr. Umar Musa Galadima; and Mr. Nathaniel Aboki, the 2023 PDP senatorial candidates respectfully.
Also at the meeting were Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, a sitting Senator representing Nasarawa South; Miss Farida Umar, who recently contested for the PDP National Ex Officio; and Mr. William Alaku, amongst others.
The stakeholders unanimously agreed to work together to build the party and ensure victory at all levels in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
They emphasised party interest, unity of purpose, fairness, and sustained grassroots mobilisation as key priorities.
In his remarks, Abdul, the Coordinating Chairman of the Coalition in the state, appealed to the general public, especially those interested in joining the party to be patient, promising that a more expanded meeting would be convened at various levels soon.
