The Former Governors’ Forum (FGF) has congratulated former Ogun State governor and incumbent Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, describing him as a reputable businessman, respected political leader, and elder statesman.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by the chairman of the Forum and former governor of Niger State, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, on Saturday, in which he joined “well wishers all over Nigeria” to celebrate the former governor on what he described as an auspicious milestone.
“I join well wishers all over Nigeria in congratulating Otunba, the Distinguished Sen. on this auspicious occasion of his 70th birthday,” Aliyu said.
He described Daniel as a man whose life reflects a remarkable journey of leadership, noting that his rise was built on a strong record of enterprise and integrity long before he ventured into politics.
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel life depicts a towering antecedent of a leader who set out at dawn in the journey of life,” he said.
“Long before entering politics, he built a reputation of entrepreneurship, unquestionable commercial engagements that helped in laying a foundation for greater achievements.”
Aliyu also praised Daniel’s political career, saying he had achieved notable success at both the state and national levels, while remaining a strong force in Ogun State politics and beyond.
“In politics, he has had an admirably successful political career both at the state and national level,” the statement read.
“His political leadership and direction in his home state of Ogun state has not only marked him out as a reference point in his state but equally in Nigeria at large.”
The former Niger State governor further noted that Daniel’s political influence had positively impacted many people, saying several individuals had gone on to build successful careers through his support and mentorship.
“Many of his people have had successful political careers through his support. And he is still doing his best to support his people in different areas,” he added.
Reflecting on Daniel’s time in office as governor, Aliyu said his leadership style and statesmanship contributed meaningfully to the broader goals of national peace, progress and stability.
“As a governor, his charismatic engagements and worthy statesmanship contributed to meeting the national objectives of peace, progress and stability in our nation,” he said.
Aliyu also commended Daniel’s continued role in the affairs of the Former Governors’ Forum, describing his contributions as “endearing” and noting that he remains active in the body as a leader and Deputy National Chairman.
“As a former governor, his contributions are endearing as he continues to play an active part in the Forum of Former Governors as a leader and as the Deputy National Chairman,” the statement added.
He concluded by offering prayers and goodwill to the former Ogun governor as he marks the landmark age.
“Otunba, as you celebrate 70 years, your years will continue to be marked with joy, happiness and peace. Congratulations!”
