Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, will on December 17, 2025, present a new book chronicling key media moments of the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration, as part of events marking the late President’s first posthumous birthday.
Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, would have turned 83. The commemorative book, ‘Headlines & Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration’, captures his years in office and offers an insider account of governance, communication, and nation-building between 2015 and 2023.
Scheduled to hold at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, by 10am, the launch will be chaired by former Osun State governor and pioneer Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, will serve as Royal Father of the Day, leading a delegation of eminent traditional rulers from across the country. The Mother of the Day is Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, widow of the late President.
A distinguished list of business leaders is billed to serve as Chief Launchers, including Sir Dr. Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu; Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Alhaji Nasiru Danu (Sardaunan Dutse), and Aare Kola Oyefeso.
The keynote address will be delivered by former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, who will speak on the theme ‘Nigeria’s Unfulfilled Global Community Expectations’.
The book will be reviewed by Segun Adeniyi, former presidential spokesman and chairman, Editorial Board of ThisDay Newspapers.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Lai Mohammed said the book “will serve both as a commemoration of President Buhari’s life and legacy, and as a reflection on the policies, programmes and values that shaped his tenure.”
‘Headlines & Soundbites’ documents Mohammed’s stewardship of a sprawling ministry overseeing information management, cultural development, tourism promotion, and national orientation, while offering a behind-the-scenes view of how major national policies were communicated and defended.
The event is organised by the Book Launch Committee and forms a major part of national activities honouring Buhari’s memory.
