A former chief executive of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Peter Okuromade, has stressed the need for moral rebirth among corps members to prepare them for leadership roles in the country.
Okuromade made the call during a courtesy visit by the 23rd director-general of the scheme, Olakunle Nafiu, to his residence in Abuja.
He said corps members, as role models to the younger generations, should be exposed to the ideals of responsible citizenship, especially during orientation camp activities.
The former NYSC boss, who led the scheme between January and March 2002, commended Nafiu’s leadership qualities since assuming office and praised his commitment to staff and corps welfare.
In a related development, another former director-general of the scheme, Suleiman Kazaure, applauded the NYSC’s contributions to national unity, youth empowerment, job creation and and mentorship.
Kazaure made the remarks during a similar visit by Nafiu to his residence in Abuja, where he urged the NYSC leadership to strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to guarantee the safety of corps members and officials during the 2027 general elections.
He also pledged his continued support for the scheme, assuring the current Director General of his willingness to offer advice whenever needed.
Responding, Nafiu appreciated the former NYSC leaders for their contributions to the scheme’s growth and pledged to sustain the legacies they established during their tenures.
