Ex-Porn Star Sworn In As Colombian Senator

A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia.

Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, won a Senate seat in the March elections on a platform advocating rights and protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.

According to Colombian outlet El Tiempo, Omaña will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region as part of the leftist Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 parliamentary term. She secured the seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed list.

The Historic Pact is currently Colombia’s strongest political force. Data from the country’s National Registry shows the bloc won 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote, garnering more than 4.4 million ballots and securing 25 seats.

Omaña, who transitioned from journalism into the adult film industry before returning to public life, has maintained that her past should not overshadow her ability to serve as a lawmaker.

According to Infobae Colombia, she believes women who have worked in the sex industry contribute significantly to the country’s economy and deserve legal recognition rather than continued stigma.

Responding to critics who questioned her suitability for public office, Omaña said in a TikTok video: “¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?” — translated as, “Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”

Born in the city of Cúcuta, Omaña said her legislative agenda will also focus on mental health and combating sexual abuse.

Her election marks one of the most closely watched developments in Colombian politics in recent years. It comes months after her appointment, alongside fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality—a move that sparked controversy within President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
