Former House of Representatives member, Farah Dagogo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State after winning the party’s direct primary election.

Dagogo secured 64,700 votes in the primary conducted across the 319 wards in the 23 local government areas of the state, defeating his closest rival, Dr Sokonte Davies, who polled 9,050 votes.

The result was announced by the chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, Dr Agu Bryan, in the presence of committee members and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Bryan said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and electoral procedures, adding that Dagogo satisfied all requirements expected of aspirants.

Responding to his victory, Dagogo described the outcome as a collective triumph for members of the party and residents of Rivers State seeking a better future.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to the leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State for the confidence reposed in me by electing me as the party’s governorship candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” he said.

The former lawmaker noted that the contest produced no losers, saying all aspirants remained partners united by a shared vision for the progress and prosperity of Rivers State.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every member of our great party and every Rivers citizen who believes in the possibility of a better future for our state,” he stated.

Dagogo urged residents of the state to rise above political divisions and embrace unity, inclusiveness, and collective responsibility in addressing the challenges confronting the state.

According to him, the task ahead goes beyond individual political ambition and requires the participation of all stakeholders to build a secure, functional, and economically viable Rivers State.

He said his administration would build on the legacies of past leaders of the state, including Alfred Diete-Spiff, Ada George, Peter Odili, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“We will learn from their successes, improve upon their shortcomings, and chart a new course that prioritises sustainable development and people-centred governance,” he said.

Dagogo also pledged to run an issue-based campaign centred on security, quality education, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare delivery, and economic development.

“We will not engage in mudslinging, personal attacks, or divisive politics,” he added.
