Former two-time member of the House of Representatives and ex-Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Hon. Nasiru Baballe Ila, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing marginalisation and lack of internal democracy within the party.

In a letter dated October 23, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Gyadi-Gyadi Arewa in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, Ila described his resignation as a “painful yet necessary decision.”

He accused the party leadership of sidelining founding members, particularly those who came from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), one of the legacy parties that formed the APC.

“The treatment I have received within the party, particularly in Kano, and other salient developments have compelled me to take this step,” the letter read in part.

Ila, who represented Tarauni Federal Constituency between 2011 and 2019, lamented that despite his commitment to the APC since its formation, he and his supporters had been consistently marginalised and denied recognition.

“Beyond my personal experiences and those of my supporters who have been consistently sidelined, the leadership’s refusal at all levels to recognize and involve core legacy members from the defunct CPC in party activities has been disheartening,” he wrote.

He further recalled being denied a return ticket to the House of Representatives in 2019, an incident he said reflected the party’s growing disregard for fairness and inclusiveness.

“The party’s lack of internal democracy and inclusiveness starkly contradicts its progressive ideals,” he stated. “As a principled individual, and in line with my conviction and faith, I can no longer, in good conscience, remain in a party that compromises my values.”

The former presidential aide, who served under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he said his values and principles would be respected.

“It gives me great pleasure, after careful consideration, to align myself with a new platform that reflects the very reason I joined politics — service to humanity,” he said, adding that he would continue to uphold “politics without bitterness.”
