A former vice chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Emeritus Professor Sylvanus Cookey, has lauded the people of Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State on the choice of their Amanyanabo-elect, Alabo Charles Mac-Pepple-Jaja.
He described the incoming monarch as a unique person who can pilot the affairs of the kingdom.
Cookey, who is a professor of History spoke yesterday when the King Jaja Group of Houses presented the Amanyanabo-elect to the Opobo Kingdom Council of Alapu at Opobo Town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro local government area of Rivers State.
“We are here as a Council of Alapu in Opobo Kingdom to receive our newly elected monarch, who we are delighted to see as a unique choice, the person who we all accept as a unique candidate, a unique person actually to pilot the affairs of this kingdom.
“The choice is well received by the whole Kingdom, youths, women, adults and all of us who also lead various sections of this kingdom. So, we are very happy, we thank God for this transition. We are praying, hoping that this kingdom has embarked on a new trajectory of development under his leadership.
“We are expecting the continuation of our cultural traditions, strengthening of our institutions, the development, particularly economic development of this kingdom under his guidance,” he said.
In his presentation at the event, Mac-Pepple-Jaja promised to work with Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led state government and the federal government to sustain the growth and development of the ancient kingdom.
