A group under the aegis of the Northern Majority Alliance (NOMAL) has urged the Presidency to expedite the establishment of the North Central Development Commission. This commission is expected to address developmental imbalances across Northern Nigeria by ensuring equitable progress alongside existing regional commissions.

NOMAL, in a communique signed by the convener Ibrahim Bunu, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP in Jos, also decried the rising unemployment and underemployment of Northern youths, leaving many vulnerable to redundancy and negative influences.
He pointed out that NOMAL remains unwavering in its commitment to Equity, Unity, and Progress, stressing that it stands ready to support President Tinubu in 2027 in creating a new future where every Northern Voice is heard and every community is empowered.

“We call on the Presidency to critically examine and revamp Skill Acquisition and Vocational Training programmes, including creating pathways for employability and entrepreneurship. This will harness the potential of Northern youths and mitigate societal vices.

According to the communique, NOMAL actively engages stakeholders, including Traditional and Religious Leaders, to foster Unity and Development. It adds that a United North, free from divisive influences, is essential for collective progress.

The group further explained that through these partnerships, they should champion policies that promote Inclusivity, Equity, and Sustainable Development across all Northern Communities.
The communique further stated that they are aware of attempts to sow discord in the North through rumours of reshuffling key positions in the current administration, including that of the Vice Presidency and the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).

According to the convener, such distractions will not derail their focus. “Our priority remains to ensure the North’s collective interests are represented. The success of the Muslim-Muslim ticket demonstrates unity and performance that transcends religious or ethnic affiliations.

He also stressed, “We remain open to similar combinations in the future, including a Christian-Christian ticket, provided it serves Nigeria’s best interests”.

The group emphasised that ahead of 2027, political negotiations must prioritize situating the Vice Presidency in a State within the North that demonstrates overwhelming support for President Tinubu’s re-election, adding that his strategic positioning will ensure a fair reward for loyalty and contribution to national development.
