The Nigerian government, youths and graduates have been urged to embrace paid internships on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to bridge the tech skill gaps in the country’s private and public sectors.
An IT expert, Mr Adeposi Bamiduro, who gave the advice, said it would make Nigeria and Africa at large to be at par with technologically-advanced nations of the world.
Bamiduro, who is the chief executive officer of the Nigeria-based coding school, Conclase Academy, called on the private sector, the government and NGOs to collaborate with the institution not just by sponsoring students to learn tech skills, but by offering internship opportunities for graduates of the academy in their companies.
Revealing the unwavering focus of the institution established in 2021 on producing tech experts , he stated that it had succeeded in opening the vista of opportunities for its third set of graduates, by creating paid internship programmes and employment windows for them in high-flying companies operating in the tech sector in Nigeria and the African continent.
Bamiduro pointed out that over 3000 students have been trained and equipped with different in-demand technology skills adding that the graduates of the third cohort, had undergone a rigorous selection process and were matched with suitable companies based on their skills, interests, and performance.
He said that the internships would last for a minimum of three months and would provide the graduates with hands-on experience and mentorship from industry experts.
