The deputy director, Medical Services and Training at Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr Stephen Arigidi, has prescribed frequent sexual intercourse and exercise as antidotes to prostate enlargement.

He also advised men of 40 years and above to eat less red meat, avoid alcohol and smoking, but instead eat lot  of vegetables and fruits.

Arigidi gave  the advice during a lecture on prostate disease which he presented at a meeting of members of the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ ) in Ilorin, Kwara State.

“It is advisable to increase intake of fruits and vegetables, engage in routine exercise, go for screening for early detection, especially for those with family history, ‘’ he said.

The expert  said it was advisable for men above 40 years of age, especially with a family history of prostrate enlargement, to frequently undergo  prostate specific antigen (PSA) test.

He said prostrate enlargement when detected early could be easily managed before it becomes malignant

Arigidi added that as a man increases in age, there is the tendency for the prostrate gland to increase, adding that a healthy prostrate is one that is free from any form of disease and that is what men  must strive to achieve.

A consultant with the state Ministry of Health, Dr Ayeni Olawale, discussed with the veteran journalists and other guests on the causes, prevention and treatment of prostate disease.

He said poor urine stream,  intermittent stream of urine and  incomplete emptying of the bladder are some of the symptoms of prostate disease.

The vice chairman of NALVEJ, Mr  Olu Ajayi, thanked the guest lecturers for honouring the association’s invitation and their brilliant presentations.
