Experts Advocate Digitalisation Of Public Service

Experts in the engineering sector have called for the enforcement of digitalization of public service in the country.

They said the sector has the capacity to transform the public and private sectors in the country.

The permanent secretary in the Special Duties Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, in a lecture he delivered at the monthly general meeting of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Abuja branch with the theme: “Digitalisation of the civil service” said, “Our long-term strategies is to enable the civil service to own and operate a world class objectives base on government services for citizens fostering multi-faceted approach to drive positive change.

Faruk said, “The key implementation requires a sensitisation of stakeholders, political factor, digitalization, communication, infrastructural standard, training of ICT and cyber security in order to develop cultural revolution of our engineering sectors to achieve the status of digital world class objective by the public service in the year 2025, in line with our mandate.

“The digitalisation is to keep all records of automation of workflow to achieve the overall objective of improving sharing of information communication and collaboration to increase productivity and improve service delivery to save cost in public and private sector with a view to develop an operational framework for regulatory bodies in the country.”

The chairman of NSE, Abuja branch, Engr Ben-Osy Okon, in his welcome remarks, said the branch has a company which was registered in 2002 but has not been in operation, adding that the ex-co members had approved the engagement of consultants to update the firm’s papers to make it operational.

Okon said the annual general meeting/engineering week 2023 will hold from August 20-September 1, 2023.

He said the past chairman and elders will be honoured on August 11, 2023.

He said the branch would organise the health work and free medical check for members on June 20, 2023 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.
