The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stopped cash transactions across all airports in Nigeria.

In an internal memo signed by the managing director, FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, and made available to LEADERSHIP, she said the step was taken to fully embrace Nigeria’s cashless economy, announcing that all airport transactions will no longer accept physical cash.

The move, unveiled by FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, aligns with a sweeping government directive aimed at curbing cash handling in federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The authority, in the memo, ordered that, effective February 28, 2026, every financial transaction at Nigerian airports must be processed exclusively through approved electronic platforms.

Directors and departmental heads were instructed to immediately implement systems ensuring compliance, with strict penalties for any officer found breaching the new policy.

Kuku, said the directive represents more than policy compliance but a declaration of FAAN’s commitment to operational efficiency, accountability, and transparency.

“This is a critical step toward modernizing airport revenue management and safeguarding public funds,” she said.
