Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, returned to the country on Monday evening following their quarter-final exit from the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The team arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where they were received by the Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme.
The Falconets’ campaign ended in painful fashion on Sunday after they conceded a stoppage-time goal to Colombia in Łódź, suffering a narrow defeat that ended their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals.
Ikpeme was joined at the airport by members of the NFF Management, including the Director of Legal Services, Okey Obi; Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen; Director of Protocol, Barnabas Joro; Acting Director of Member Associations, Ali Abubakar Muhammad; and Deputy Director of Audit, Margaret Magai.
Despite their quarter-final elimination, the Falconets’ return marks the end of Nigeria’s campaign at the global youth tournament, with attention now expected to shift towards reviewing the team’s performance and preparations for future international competitions.
The reception by the NFF management signals the federation’s acknowledgement of the players and officials following their efforts on the world stage.
