Falz Slams ‘Emi Lọkan’ Slogan, Questions Government’s Priorities

Nigerian rapper and actor Falz has sparked fresh political debate after criticising the Federal Government’s priorities and describing the popular “Emi Lọkan” campaign slogan as the most absurd thing he has ever heard.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, the outspoken entertainer questioned government spending amid the country’s worsening security and economic challenges.

Falz criticised what he described as the government’s focus on acquiring luxury items instead of addressing pressing national issues.

“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets and all these things, and look at what has actually gone on with insecurity and what we’re facing, what are your priorities?” he asked.

The rapper also dismissed the idea that establishing more foundations was the answer to Nigeria’s problems.

“Is that the solution to our problems? More foundations? It’s absurd,” he said.

Reacting to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s recent remarks that the pressure on the government was enormous and that young Nigerians should also contribute to nation-building, Falz argued that governing was a responsibility voluntarily accepted by elected leaders.

“What do you mean pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this role?” he asked.

He reserved his strongest criticism for the “Emi Lọkan” slogan, which translates to “It is my turn.”

“Do you know what that translates to in English? It is my turn. I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life,” Falz said.

“That means from day one that you set out on your political journey, this is the day you have been waiting for. So, what can you come and say, pressure is much on you? Are you okay?”

His comments have since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions online, with supporters praising him for speaking out on governance, while others criticised his remarks as politically charged.
