A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja has remanded a 30-year-old man, Nyime Nbride at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old daughter.

Chief Magistrate, Esther Kubeinje ordered that the defendant be kept behind bars after he was brought before her by the police on allegations of defilement, sexual assault, and indecent treatment of a child.

The police prosecutor, Kehinde Ajayi had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 22 and that the case was reported to the security agency by the survivor’s mother.

Ajayi also claimed that the survivor confirmed to the police that she was molested by her father more than once in his room.

The prosecutor further stated that the offences violated the provisions of sections 135, 137, and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The court did not take the plea of the defendant, who resides at Ajegunle Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, because it lacks the jurisdiction to try the case.

The Magistrate, however, directed the police to send a copy of the case file to the Lagos State Directorate of the Public Prosecution (DPP) so that a legal advice can be issued on the matter.

She then adjourned the matter to November 13, for mention and to receive the legal advice.
