The Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has intensified its oversight drive with a strategic engagement involving the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT).

The session, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, focused on strengthening transparency, institutional accountability, and compliance with the Federal Character Principle across government institutions.

Chairman of the committee, Peter Eze, said the engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen oversight responsibilities and promote equitable representation within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to him, the meeting was designed to advance the reform agenda of the Federal Character Commission through stronger institutional collaboration and improved administrative compliance.

“This engagement is not merely a routine exercise but a strategic platform to promote accountability, transparency, inclusiveness, and adherence to the constitutional mandate of the Federal Character Commission,” Eze said.

The SURCON delegation was led by surveyor-general and registrar, Surveyor Olugbemiro Kunle, while the NITT team was headed by Dr. Bayero Salih Farah.

Discussions at the meeting centred on institutional efficiency, staff representation, administrative fairness, regulatory compliance, and improved inter-agency cooperation within the public service.

Eze stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the FCC and regulatory bodies such as SURCON and NITT in promoting national cohesion and balanced representation in appointments, recruitment, staff development, and resource allocation.

The leadership of SURCON and NITT commended the committee for creating an avenue for policy dialogue and reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and compliance with government regulations.

The meeting also explored measures to strengthen compliance mechanisms, improve communication channels, and enhance institutional synergy for better service delivery.

Following the deliberations, members of the committee and the delegations paid a courtesy visit to the executive chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hulayat Ayo Omidiran.
