The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced that the FCT Civil Service Commission will begin operations shortly.

Wike made this announcement on Monday while inaugurating the construction of a five-kilometre dual carriageway in Kuje, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

The minister highlighted that this development marks a first in the history of the territory, adhering to the provisions of the FCT Civil Service Commission (CSC) Law, 2018.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that in October 2023, Wike announced President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of the CSC for the FCT.

He explained that the establishment of the civil service commission would enable civil servants in the FCT Administration to advance to become permanent secretaries, noting that currently, career progression in the FCT civil service ends at the director level.

“Very soon, the FCT Civil Service Commission will be announced. This has never happened before,” said Wike.

“Mr. President means well for the FCT. That is why you must continue to defend the mandate of Jagaban (Tinubu) because he means well for the entire country.”

Wike stated that this initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, aimed at restoring hope among the populace.

“The renewed hope agenda is not just on paper; it is practical because you can see it, feel it, and touch it. I know things may not be moving as fast as we expect, but what is important is that Nigerians are beginning to rekindle their hope for change,” Wike expressed.

He attributed the achievements recorded so far to the overwhelming support from President Tinubu for the FCT administration.

“We are doing well because Mr. President is behind us. He has always fulfilled every request we make. So, we don’t have any excuse not to fulfill our responsibilities,” he said.

Regarding poverty and insecurity, Wike mentioned that the FCT Administration is collaborating with area council chairmen to tackle these challenges regardless of political affiliations.

“Poverty does not know your political party. So, we must work together to fight poverty. Insecurity does not discriminate between the rich and the poor. Thus, we must unite to combat insecurity. The council chairmen are working with us. Whenever there is a problem, we come together, and that is how it should be,” he concluded.
