In a bid to foster unity and ensure fair representation across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO) has appealed to the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to prioritise balanced appointments across the six area councils.
At a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, the group raised concerns over the current composition of appointments for officers-in-charge (O-i-Cs) and other key positions, urging the minister to ensure that all indigenous tribes within the territory are given a sense of belonging.
The executive director of AOIYEO, Commandant Isaac David, emphasised that inclusivity is not just a matter of fairness but a critical tool for sustaining the peace and unity for which the FCT is known.
“We are humbly appealing to the wisdom of the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to prioritise balanced appointments.
“It is imperative that he gives opportunities to the various tribes residing across the six area councils,” he stated.
He noted that while the current administration has performed remarkably in infrastructure development, the distribution of political appointments must reflect the territory’s diverse demographics to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of the FCT.
“This will promote unity and fairness. When every tribe feels represented, it strengthens the bonds between the people and the government,” he added.
In a passionate plea to the political class, the group also called on Senator Philip Aduda to leverage his personal relationship with the minister to advance the cause of inclusivity.
“We are also appealing to the Distinguished Senator Philip Aduda to kindly discuss with his good friend, the Honourable minister, that we are all benefiting from his administration.
“We want him to highlight the importance of considering other tribes across the six Area Councils for filling vacant appointments,” David urged.
The group stressed that with several vacancies still open for Officers-in-Charge and other strategic roles, now is the opportune moment to appoint candidates from tribes that have historically been underrepresented.
“We are all benefiting from the Minister’s efforts, but we want to ensure that no tribe is left behind. Let us discuss this with the minister so that together, we can promote inclusivity among us in the FCT,” he said.
