The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled an attempted car theft in Abuja, arresting a 26-year-old suspect allegedly caught trying to break into a vehicle with a fabricated master key.

The Command’s spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement last night that the suspect, identified as Thankgod Ayuba, was apprehended on Wednesday at the premises of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in Maitama.

According to a statement, the incident occurred at about 12:35 p.m. after the Command received a distress call from an NFIU staff member.

The staff member reportedly noticed an unfamiliar individual attempting to gain access to a parked vehicle while trying to drive out of the office premises.

Following the report, a patrol team from the Maitama Police Division was immediately deployed to the scene, where the suspect was arrested while allegedly attempting to force open a black Toyota Venza belonging to an NFIU staff member using a fabricated master key.

Police said the fabricated key was recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest.

The Command disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the prompt action of the NFIU staff member and the swift response of officers, urging residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the FCT through proactive policing and rapid response to distress calls.
