The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCTA), has applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his commitment to the welfare of doctors.
In a letter of appreciation to the minister, dated January 15, 2026, the association commended Wike for what it termed his “exemplary leadership and commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers,” highlighting the payment of longstanding 13-month hazard allowance arrears and a one-month wage award.
The letter, signed by ARD-FCTA President Dr George Ebong and General Secretary Dr Yusuf Israel Lissa, read in part: “Warm greetings from the leadership and entire members of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCTA).
“We write to formally express our profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for your exemplary leadership and commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers, as demonstrated by the payment of the longstanding 13 months hazard allowance arrears as well as the payment of one month wage award.
“This timely intervention underscores your dedication to equity, fairness, and the recognition of the sacrifices made by doctors and other health workers in the course of service in the FCTA.”
The letter added: “Our Association remains committed to constructive engagement and collaboration in advancing the FCT health sector and ensuring the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to the populace.”
The doctors also acknowledged the roles played by other officials, including the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud; the acting head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan; the chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr Emeka Ezeh; and the mandate secretary for the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe.
Other officials mentioned were the Permanent Secretary for Treasury and Budget, Mr Adamu Ibrahim Wanki; the Permanent Secretary for the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Baba Gana Adam; the permanent secretary for Common Services, Mr Ajayi Rotimi Babatunde; the overseeing director general of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr Ahmadu Abubakar; and the director of Clinical and Diagnostics at the Hospitals Management Board, Dr Osagie Osayande.
