Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed support for President Bola Tinubu and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, over the ongoing infrastructure transformation across Abuja and its satellite towns.

Chanting “Renewed Hope in Action,” the jubilant residents trooped out yesterday to cheer the minister during his inspection of key projects in Gwagwalada and Kwali area councils, including the Market and Etsu Road in Gwagwalada and the A2 to Pai Road in Kwali.

The residents affirmed that the Renewed Hope Agenda was delivering tangible results in the nation’s capital.

“We are pleased with the ongoing transformation in Abuja. President Tinubu made the right choice in appointing Wike as FCT minister. We will continue to support this administration to ensure more development,” Salisu Illiasu, a resident of Kwali, said.

In his response to the cheers of the residents, Wike said the Renewed Hope Agenda had moved from mere rhetoric to visible impact, particularly in rural infrastructure.

“We are happy when the people are happy. When people’s happiness is tied to the government’s performance, it energises us, telling us that we’re doing the right thing. It is not my statement, but that of a resident who said, ‘Indeed, the Renewed Hope Agenda is at work.’ That tells you something,” he said.

During the inspection of the A2 to Pai Road now fitted with streetlights, Wike emphasised the importance of strong leadership.

“This is the result of right leadership. Mr. President has shown leadership, and we’re only following his vision. There is no magic to it. When the leader is focused and provides support, those working with him have no excuse not to deliver,” he said.

At the Aguma Palace Road construction site, the minister was met with cheers from traders, community leaders and other locals who hailed the project as a game-changer.

“What we saw in Aguma Palace is incredible. The people were shouting, jubilating. That alone tells you that hope is working,” Wike said.

While addressing concerns about project quality, Wike issued a stern warning to contractors; “How bad would it feel if you were not getting quality jobs? You have paid money, and they are delivering what you need, of course, you will be happy. The contractors know there is no room for substandard work,” he said.

When questioned about other sectors, Wike assured that education and healthcare were not being neglected.

“Just because we are not taking you to the schools yet does not mean nothing is happening. We have renovated over 60 schools, and they are truly innovative and polished. We will invite you after the road commissioning to see for yourself,” he said.

The minister stressed that road infrastructure remains a priority, as it connects all other sectors.

He added, “Development anywhere in the world starts with roads. If there are no roads, which school can you attend? Which hospital can you visit? Which farm produce can you transport? Roads unlock everything.”
