Members of the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria have arrested a soldier, Nafiu Isah and recovered one AK 47 and 30 rounds of live ammunition from him.
This was disclosed by the commander of Zuba Vigilantes Group, Usman Abdurahman, who said the soldier was handed over to the 176 Guards Battalion for further action.
He told LEADERSHIP Friday that the soldier was suspected of selling arms to armed bandits/kidnappers terrorising the Federal Capital Territory and environs. Sources said the soldier was arrested around Dankogi Park in Zuba at the point of sales.
The soldier had reportedly hired a gun to the kidnappers for N300,000 in one of the operations and in another instance, he received N200,000 for one gun. Unfortunately for the soldier, the kidnappers were arrested and they mentioned him as their gunrunner.
The kidnappers contacted him for another deal to supply them AK 47 rifles to buy at N3million and he fell for it. They went to the agreed site in Zuba and took position. The soldier arrived in his car to present the arm and the security men swooped on him. An AK 47 rifle as well as a fully loaded magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition was found in his car.
He said, “On 20/9/2022 at about 10.00, one 09/NA/62/1306 Cpl Nafiu Isah was caught with AD3069/1720 AK 47 rifle and one magazine with 30 rounds of ammo, we later handed him over to Army.”
According to documents obtained by LEADERSHIP Friday, Warrant Officer Ibrahim Kwache of 176 Gds Battalion Gwagwalada received the soldier on behalf of the Nigerian Army. Abdurahman said not much has been heard since he was handed over to security agencies.
The director of Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu did not respond to enquiries on the incident.
