To promote food safety in the country, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) tourism department and FCT stakeholders, has unveiled the FCT’s Food Safety Hospitality industry project.
Speaking at the unveiling, the permanent secretary of the Social Development Secretariat (SDS), Mrs Olubunmi Olowookere, highlighted this project as a significant milestone in the history of tourism in ensuring food safety in the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
Olowookere noted that the safety projects development initiative aimed to enhance the standards of the hospitality industry. He added that the project seeks to elevate food safety practices, foster sustainability and promote food security in FCT.
She said that FCT is a premiere destination for local and international visitors. “Our participation today is crucial as we embark on this journey to ensure a safer and more vibrant future for tourism and hospitality across all sectors,” she said.
She further underscored the importance of food safety in human health development, which cannot be overstated. “If you have been a victim of just a slight bowel movement and powered offsets, you would understand what I mean. “
She said food is essential for life. “As the capital of Nigeria, the FCT is taking the lead in ensuring that the food we consume daily in hotels, restaurants, guest houses, and other establishments is safe for human health.”
Also speaking, a representative from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Alhaji Adamu Kilishi, said the federal government through the ministry has several programmes towards ensuring nutrition and food safety.
