In an attempt to tackle exam irregularities, the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has mounted Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in different exam halls to monitor, track, and prevent students from engaging in exam misconduct and malpractice, LEADERSHIP can report.
In addition to the cameras, invigilators and supervisors monitor the conduct of exams in the institution to ensure an adequate watchdog on students and curb malpractices.
Speaking to our correspondent, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Malam Sani Usman, said plans are underway to install additional cameras outside the halls to track suspected acts of exam misconduct.
“We have installed CCTV Cameras in several key halls, and most of our classrooms have solar inverts to support the Camara’s work 24/7.
“We are also working on a TETFund research which has been funded two years ago to see how CCTVs van installed outside classrooms to tackle insecurity and exams malpractice,” he said.
Usman said the Polytechnic is currently reviewing its students’ handbooks to include cyber trends in exam malpractice and also provide appropriate sanctions to punish suspected students found guilty.
The rector noted that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) inspected about 78 programmes offered for accreditation and resource inspection to continue operating in line with best global practices.
He said up-to-date equipment and machines needed for practicals have been installed to equip students with the contemporary skills they need to thrive in their respective fields of study.
