The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on the contractor handling the Ungwan Iliya–Bagudu–Kwantabale-Tsiga–Bakori Road project in Katsina State to hasten construction work and ensure timely completion, following an on-the-spot inspection of the site.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Community Engagement, Hon. Abdullahi Tanko-Yakase, made the plea during a national media tour to the project location in Kafur local government area of Katsina State. He acknowledged that the 17.5-kilometre federal road had faced setbacks due to insecurity, which slowed progress in the early stages of execution.

Despite the challenges, he said the federal government remained committed to seeing the project delivered to standard for the benefit of the host communities.

The SSA disclosed that the project, which commenced about a year ago, is currently at approximately 15 per cent completion, noting that the inspection team demanded clear milestones from the contractor, who has now given assurances that the level of work would rise significantly within a short period of time.

“We asked the contractor about the milestone, and he has assured us that by the end of next month the project will move from about 15 per cent to between 40 and 45 per cent completion,” Tanko-Yakase stated.

According to him, the commitment has given the federal government renewed confidence, adding that the project would be subjected to continuous inspection and monitoring to ensure the contractor keeps to his word.

Tanko-Yakase also confirmed that the quality of work executed so far has been independently assessed by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), both of which certified that the construction met required standards and specifications.

He further noted that the contractor has mobilised new equipment to the site, a development he said should translate into faster and more efficient execution of the project.

While urging the contractor to sustain the momentum, the SSA emphasised the importance of timely delivery, stressing that the road was critical to improving connectivity, security, and socio-economic activities across the affected communities in Katsina State.

LEADERSHIP reports that the inspection formed part of an ongoing national media tour of federal road projects, aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and public awareness of infrastructure development under the current administration.
