Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, officially handed over the vehicles to the inspector general of police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the minister pointed out that the vehicles symbolised a collective effort to empower the Nigeria Police in their vital role of safeguarding lives and property across the nation.

“Today’s event marks a significant milestone. The security vehicles we are handing over to the Nigeria Police Force stand as a testament to the relentless commitment of our ministry to bolster national security,” Gaidam said.

He further noted that the ministry has worked diligently, leveraging its annual budget to address critical needs within the Nigeria Police Force, adding that, “it is with pride that I present to you seven state-of-the-art Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAV), procured from our 2024 operational budget. We believe these vehicles will significantly enhance operational efficiency, ensuring our officers can perform their duties more safely and effectively.

“One noteworthy aspect of these vehicles is their design, which incorporates local content. This means they are tailored for ease of maintenance within Nigeria, unlike many imported security vehicles that often struggle with durability due to our unique weather conditions and terrain. This local content design ensures resilience, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.”

He assured the Nigeria Police Force that their well-being and security remain a top priority of the President Bola Tinubu administration. “We are committed to providing the necessary resources to support their tireless efforts in protecting Nigeria’s citizens and their property,” the minister noted.

While receiving the vehicles, IGP Egbetokun expressed profound gratitude of the Force to the minister of Police Affairs for the generous donation of critical assets to the Nigeria Police Force, noting that it is not the first time they were receiving such a donation.

In his words, “we are receiving this critical asset at a time most needed and surely play a significant role in enhancing our equipment capability and boosting our anti-crime efforts, and will be deployed where they will be needed.”
