Federal Govt Inaugurates N8.1bn Transmission Line, 132KV/33KV Substation In Ondo

The Federal government through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has inaugurated the N8.1 billion Ode- Erinje Electricity Project in the Okitipupa council area of Ondo state.

Inaugurating the 132KV/33KV Substation, President Bola  Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr Abubakar Momoh said the commissioning of the power project was the effort of the federal government to ensure sustainable development in Niger Delta region.

The President noted that the present administration had determined the provision of sufficient power to stimulate the economy of the country, especially for the prosperity of all Nigerians.

According to him, “We all know that the power supply for human activity is crucial to enhance socioeconomic development, increase income to the family, create job opportunities and bring people out of poverty.”

“As a result of the commissioning, the scenario will now change to reactivate businesses for the success of our men and women. Now that the government has done its part and fulfilled its promise it’s the turn and responsibility of the communities to fulfil its part by continuing to protect this project against vandalism.”

The managing director, chief executive officer of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, informed that the project would provide electricity for over 2,000 communities in the Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo Southern Senatorial District.

Ogbuku stressed further that the project aimed to serve urgent needs and to link Ondo South to the national grid after 15 years without light in the areas.

He said that the project was also aimed at complementing the FG’s effort in the power sector by improving the power supply to Okitipupa, igbokoda and other neighbouring communities in Ondo South Senatorial District.

Addressing the gathering, the Ondo State governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, applauded President Tinubu for his gesture to restore electricity power to five local government areas of southern senatorial districts of Ondo State after 15 years of darkness.
