The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with private sector organizations to improve the nation’s economy for the betterment of its citizens. Mr. Nebeolisa Anako, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, made this announcement during the inauguration of the joint planning committee for the 29th edition of the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#29) in Abuja. He urged committee members to uphold the high standards already set.

At the same event, Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola, the CEO of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), expressed concerns about Nigeria’s low human capital indices in education and health outcomes. He emphasized the urgency of addressing these negative indicators for the greater good of the nation. The shortage of skilled medical professionals due to brain drain worsens the existing health infrastructure gap, making it challenging to meet the healthcare needs of the population.

The permanent secretary highlighted that the annual summit provides a platform for dialogue among policymakers, corporate leaders, organized private sector, civil society organizations, and development partners. He mentioned that the summit has contributed to entrenching the culture of development planning in the country and played a significant role in developing the National Development Plan (NDP) 2021-2025 and the Nigeria Agenda 2050.
