The federal government has been summoned before the High Court of Justice of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the planned implementation of new tax laws on January 1, 2026.
The plaintiff in the suit, Incorporated Trustees of African Initiative for Abuse Public Trustees, prayed the court for an order to stop the implementation of the law pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
Respondents in the suit are the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the attorney-general of the federation and the Senate president o.
Other defendants are the speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
In a motion ex parte before the court, the plaintiff sought an order of interim injunction restraining the federal government from going ahead with the implementation pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The plaintiff further prayed for an order directing an accelerated hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The Court has fixed January 5, 2026, for ruling on the Ex parte motion.
