Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has said the present administration remains committed to enhancing quality education through implementation of strategic policies in the sector.
Mamman who stated this at the 35th convocation of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, said the government was aware of the various challenges that are presently bedeviling the nation’s education sector.
To this end, he assured that issues such as accessibility, equity, funding, teacher capacity building, institutional management, technical and vocational education will be actively addressed by this administration.
The education minister represented by the director of legal services, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Blessing Azorbo, stated that a comprehensive four-year strategic plan is underway to serve as a roadmap for the sector’s development.
“A crucial step in this direction was the National Stakeholders’ Workshop on October 19, 2023, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education. The envisioned roadmap is poised to shape the future of education in our nation,” he averred.
According to him, it is imperative to emphasise that addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts beyond the government, urging all stakeholders, particularly industry leaders, to complement government initiatives through contributions to research, structural development, scholarships for underprivileged students, capacity building and graduate employment.
‘’This partnership will significantly augment the accomplishments facilitated by agencies like TETFund, PTDF, and International Development Partners,’’ he said.
On his part, rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. ibraheem Abdul, asserted that the 35th convocation was for the graduates of the 2021-2022 academic session with 7,717 graduands awarded diplomas and certificates. Of these figures, 254 got distinction, 1,893 upper credits and 1,630 in the pass grade.
