Speaking at a press briefing at the presidential villa on Thursday, Minister of State for Police Affairs Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim said the initiative aims to “deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda” by restoring trust, strengthening collaboration, and renewing hope of young Nigerians in the police force.

“The goal is to enhance collaboration between youth and police towards strengthening national security, It elevates the role of Nigerian youth in the security architecture, empowering this vibrant segment to be watch guards and active participants in ensuring community safety,” Ibrahim stated.

The project has three main components comprising a pact enhancing civic commitment from youth and government security commitments, youth-focused engagement permeating youth culture, and a technology platform for transparency, accountability and prompt issue reporting.

Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande acknowledged the erosion of trust between youth and law enforcement in recent times, calling it an “urgent need for proactive and innovative solutions.”

“This initiative reflects our determination to address root causes of discord and mistrust. It empowers youth to be active nation-builders while equipping officers with tools for integrity and professionalism,” Olawande said.

The ministers urged stakeholders to embrace the opportunity for collaboration, with Sulaiman-Ibrahim assuring, “We are committed to deep reforms for an inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven and community-based world-class police force.”

The launch represents efforts by Nigeria’s new administration led by President Bola Tinubu to address youth concerns through concrete policies and youth empowerment.
