Kano State House of Assembly has urged the executive arm of government to strengthen the enforcement of the Child Protection Law to combat rising cases of child trafficking and forced labour.

At yesterday’s plenary presided over by the speaker Hon Jibril Falgore, member representing Madobi constituency, Alhaji Sulaiman Ishaq, moved a motion highlighting alarming cases of underage children trafficked from his constituency to serve as domestic workers.

Ishaq cited instances where children suffer molestation, hardship, and educational denial, including a young girl who disappeared after being sent to work as a maid.

He called for either reviewing existing child protection laws or establishing a dedicated agency to safeguard children from exploitation.

Lawmakers demanded immediate government intervention for disaster victims across multiple constituencies in separate motions.

Member representing Rano constituency, Ibrahim Muhammad sought relief for victims of heavy rainfall and windstorms that claimed human and animal lives and destroyed over 300 houses and farmlands in Rano local government area.

Similarly, the member representing Minjibir constituency, Abdulhamid Abdul, requested assistance for flood victims in Kunya and Kazawa communities, where an Islamiyya school and mosque were washed away.

He proposed establishing an assessment committee to evaluate damages and forward reports to relevant agencies.

Both motions were unanimously adopted, with the Assembly urging the state government to support affected communities and urging full enforcement of the child protection law.
