The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) in Benin City has introduced cutting-edge medical services that bridge the gap between mental health care and specialized treatments.

This significant expansion which encompasses surgery, obstetrics/gynaecology, cardiology, and neurological services no doubt represent a major milestone in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to provide holistic and integrated healthcare services to the general public. It is noteworthy that the hospital also provides state-of-the-art molecular laboratory, radio-diagnostic, 4-D ultrasound services including immunization etc.

The chief medical director/CEO of the hospital, Dr Imafidon Agbonile, who disclosed this in a press statement, made available to LEADERSHIP, said the commencement of these new medical services at the hospital is not only aimed at broadening the scope of care available to patients but also at addressing the pervasive stigma associated with mental illness.

By offering a diverse range of medical services within a single institution, the hospital is fostering a more inclusive environment that normalizes seeking treatment for both mental and physical health issues. Patients can now receive comprehensive care within the same facility, thereby reducing the stress to travel multiple facilities for different health concerns. This integration ensures continuity of care, reduces stress for patients, enhances overall outcomes and even encourages more individuals to seek necessary care without fear of judgment or stigma.

Furthermore, the expansion of services by the current hospital management is strategically designed to also improve the hospital’s internally generated revenue (IGR). This no doubt is a win-win scenario for the hospital.

By attracting a broader patient base through the provision of high-demand specialties such as surgery, obstetrics/gynaecology, cardiology, neurology, the hospital is positioning itself as a leading healthcare provider in Edo State.

Additionally, the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery is reflected in its rigorous standards for patient care, staff training, and facility enhancement. The hospital is staffed by experienced specialists dedicated to providing compassionate and effective treatment using the most modern equipments.

“This expansion is a testament to our dedication to improving healthcare access and quality for our community. By integrating these vital services, we are not only addressing the immediate health needs of our patients but also promoting a more inclusive and supportive approach to mental health,” Agbonile added.
