The Federal Civil Service Pensioners branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has called on the Federal Government to implement the N32,000 pension increase approved for retirees.

In Abuja, the National President of the branch, Comrade Frederick Eguaoba, noted that while the new national minimum wage of N70,000 has been implemented for workers, pensioners are yet to benefit from the corresponding adjustment.

Eguaoba explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had recently approved the release of N58 billion to cover the pension increment. Still, the union alleges that the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation have not affected payment.

He said the union is appealing for the immediate release of the approved funds to fully implement the pension increase and settlement of seven to eight months’ arrears owed to retirees.

According to him, pensioners expect the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to ensure prompt follow-up with the concerned agencies for the release of the funds.

While commending President Tinubu for approving the funds, Eguaoba stressed the need for timely execution, adding that pensioners may resort to peaceful demonstrations from October 1, 2025, if the matter remains unresolved.
