Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, has assured of the implementation of an efficient, resilient, and equitable health system to improve outcomes for all diseases, including tuberculosis (TB), AIDS, and Malaria.
The minister said collaboration with partners has resulted in a record of over 360,000 TB cases notified in 2023, marking significant progress in TB control efforts.
He said with TB being the second leading cause of death from a single infectious agent, the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on revolutionising Nigeria’s health sector to address this pressing issue.
“Efforts to combat TB include the expansion of TB treatment services to over 22,000 health facilities, the establishment of a strong specimen referral network, and targeted actions to address the social determinants of TB such as poverty and limited healthcare access,” he said.
