Nigeria’s coordinating minister of health and social welfare Muhammad Ali Pate, has concluded the inspection of medical facilities operated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The visit marks a pivotal moment in the federal government’s commitment to enhancing the health services available to pilgrims during the upcoming 2025 Hajj.

During his inspection at NAHCON’s Ummul-Jud office, Minister Pate expressed a strong dedication to addressing the critical healthcare challenges Nigerian pilgrims face. He emphasised the federal government’s renewed focus on pilgrim welfare, aligning with the priorities set forth by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “Our commitment is clear,” Pate stated, highlighting the necessity of adhering to global health standards, particularly in light of recent health concerns such as meningitis outbreaks and the resurgence of polio. “Ensuring credible vaccination documentation, including yellow cards for all Nigerian pilgrims, is non-negotiable,” he affirmed.

Accompanied by senior delegates from the Health Ministry, Minister Pate conducted comprehensive inspections of NAHCON’s ambulance fleet and assessed the readiness of medical supplies and equipment at Nigerian health clinics in Saudi Arabia.

A statement issued by Muhammad Ahmad Musa, head of public affairs, NAHCON, said the inspection revealed essential areas for improvement, particularly in increasing the availability of crucial medicines, vaccines, and operational ambulances.

NAHCON chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, commended the minister’s initiative: “Your presence and involvement signify an extraordinary commitment that bolsters confidence in our healthcare delivery. This unprecedented engagement will undeniably facilitate a smoother and safer 2025 Hajj experience for our pilgrims.”
