Speaking during a meeting with chairman SBMC from 27 local government areas of the state, NUT, ANCOPS, state Commissioner for Higher Education and other stakeholders, Dr Iyela Ajayi said strengthening community participation in school management is a critical tool for educational development according to the “Renewal Hope ” agenda.

He noted that, in achieving the goals, SBMC was identified as an existing structure that included every targeted person or group in the community, and it can provide the desired results if supported.

“We came to Jigawa State to hear from you about the role you have been playing in the schools and also give you some additional inputs for improving your participation in school management.

“It was generally believed that, the more community takes ownership in the school’s management, the more success can be achieve in promoting transparency, accountability and learning outcome in the country ” Dr Iyela stated.

He assured the Jigawa State government and the heads of SBMC in the state that the federal government is committed to joining hands with them and all other stakeholders in tackling the challenges militating the country’s education sector.

Commissioner for Higher Education Dr Isa Yusuf Chamo said SBMC has been playing a key role in supporting education business in the state, noting, however, that the visit and engagement was timely due to the ongoing educational reform taking place in the state.

The Jigawa State chairman of the School Base Management Committee, who is also the district head of Dutse capital , Alhaji Jamilu Basiru Sanusi ( Turakin Dutse), said the committee was purely community-oriented and has been supporting the school management since its establishment in 2013.

“SBMC recognised the importance of education for moral, social and sustainable economic development of any given society, therefore we are committed in contributing our quota to the sector,” he said.
