The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to address the environmental challenges bedeviling national development especially in the Northwest region.

The director-general of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Yusuf Maina disclosed this during the opening ceremony of a stakeholders’ forum for northwest organised by the agency recently in Kano.

Dr Bukar, represented by the director, Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Building said the aim of the stakeholders meeting was to enhance synergy that would help in combating desertification, deforestation and restoration of degraded lands.

He noted that the agency has played a critical role in galvanising attention towards addressing challenges associated with climate change and other environmental issues.

The director-general maintained that NAGGW was committed to ensuring that synergies were being enhanced with states and local governments, civil society organisations, community leaders, youth and women groups, and persons with disabilities, among others.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the meeting in building a deliberate consensus policy that would address the menace of climate change.
