The Federal Government has introduced a USSD option through NairaGram for selected Nigerians to check their eligibility and access its ₦50,000 National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

The intervention, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, is designed to provide financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households facing economic hardship.

NairaGram, a digital money transfer service, is among five approved payment providers working with the Federal Government to facilitate the disbursement of the relief support.

According to the government’s NERSI portal, selected beneficiaries can use the NairaGram USSD service to check their eligibility and accept the payment without requiring internet access.

How To Check Eligibility And Receive FG’s ₦50,000 Through NairaGram

Nigerians can follow these steps to check whether they have been selected:

1. Dial the USSD code: Open your phone dialler and dial *726*00# using your registered mobile number.

2. Check your eligibility: Select the eligibility-check option from the menu and follow the instructions.

3. Follow the prompts: If you have been selected, the system will provide instructions on how to proceed.

4. Accept the support: Confirm your consent to receive the ₦50,000 government grant.

5. Receive the payment: After accepting the offer, your mobile wallet will be activated and the money credited.

6. Confirm payment: Check for an SMS notification confirming the successful payment.

Who Is Eligible For FG’s ₦50,000 Relief Support?

The Federal Government says the NERSI intervention is targeted at poor and vulnerable households selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register.

The programme covers eligible beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with selection based on vulnerability and need.

However, having a NairaGram account does not automatically qualify anyone for the support.

Beneficiaries are selected through existing government records, and there is no public application or registration process.

The government has also clarified that payments are being made in phases, meaning not everyone will receive an eligibility notification at the same time.

Is The ₦50,000 Support Free?

Yes. The Federal Government says the relief payment is free, with no registration, processing or activation charges.

Beneficiaries are also not required to pay agents or intermediaries to secure access to the money.

Nigerians are advised not to share their ATM PINs, one-time passwords (OTPs) or other confidential banking information with anyone claiming to facilitate the payment.

For complaints or further enquiries about the intervention, beneficiaries can contact the NERSI helpdesk on 0700-022-2222.
